DOMESTIC DISPUTE LEADS TO MALE BEING CHARGED

On June 12, 2016, at 7:28 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic dispute in the City of Elliot Lake.

A male returned home to find his belongings in the hallway. When he attempted to retrieve more of his property, an argument ensued and a female was pushed. As a result of the investigation, a 26 year old male from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Spousal Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code; and
  • Mischief, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 2, 2016.

OPP CHARGE MALE WITH UNAUTHORIZED PLATES

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON)- On June 12, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 12:44 p.m. police observed an off road vehicle on Washington Crescent travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation revealed the plates were not authorized for that vehicle.

Daniel SPOONER, 28 years old from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Use Unauthorized Plates, contrary to section 9(1)(d) of the Off Roads Vehicle Act

SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – DRIVER CHARGED WITH OVER 80

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On June 11, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17 at Serpent River First Nation.

At 4:55 a.m. police came upon a vehicle that had left the highway and came to rest on its side.  The officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and the driver arrested.  As a result, Derek WILSON, 43 years of age, from Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, was charged with: Operate Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 7, 2016.

OPP CHARGE MALE WITH OVER 80

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On June 12, 2016 at 9:23 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a westbound vehicle that just had left a local coffee shop in Blind River.  The male driver had the odour of alcohol on his breath and left westbound on Highway 17.

At 9:37 p.m., officers from Thessalon observed a vehicle that matched the description provided by the complainant, west of Iron Bridge.  A traffic stop was initiated. The officer determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and the driver was arrested.

Robert BALDWIN, 67 years of age, from Kierkfield, Ontario, was charged with: Operate Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 7, 2016.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE LEADS TO MALE BEING CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 12, 2016, at 4:03 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to domestic dispute in the Town of Blind River.

At 4:15 p.m., police attended the residence and the female then disclosed that her common-law spouse made a threat to her in regards to killing her.

On June 13, 2016, a 48 year old male from Blind River, Ontario was arrested and charged with: Utter Threats – Cause Bodily Harm – Spousal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal  Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of Justice in Blind River on August 4, 2016.

FEMALE DRIVER CHARGED TWICE WITHIN AN HOUR

(THESSALON, ON) – On June 10, 2016 at 1:06 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to traffic complaint of an eastbound vehicle travelling at high rates of speed and passing unsafely on Highway 17.

At 1:25 p.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and matched the description provided by the complainant.  A traffic stop was initiated.   Investigation determined the driver’s licence was expired.

Stephanie BINGHAM, 40 years of age, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic; and
  • Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

At 2:02 p.m., police observed the same vehicle on Highway 17, east of the Town of Thessalon, travelling at a high rate speed and passing other motor vehicles.  Another traffic stop was initiated.  Stephanie BINGHAM was issued another provincial offence notice and charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Arrangements were made to have a licenced driver attend the location and take control of the motor vehicle.
