With the very cold temperatures of the past couple of days, ice has begun to form on Wawa Lake. Yesterday afternoon, two patches of open water could be seen from the Drill Rig. One just off Blueberry Point, and the other on the east by Mackey Point.
Several years ago, Andy Stevens shared information showing the dates that Wawa Lake was frozen over, and when the ice went out in the spring. That chart has been added to and is below.
MyWawa would like to caution readers that the ice is not yet safe. If you look at the photographs, you can see not only coyote tracks – but snowmobile. Although they are close to shore, and in shallow water, it would still be very cold if someone broke through. Not to mention any pollution that may occur to our drinking water.
Please exercise caution, and be safe whether you are walking, skiing or snowmobiliing on ice.
