SPEEDER CHARGED WITH SUSPEND DRIVE
 
(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On June 10, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol on Highway 17 in the Township of the North Shore.

Police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 and a traffic stop was initiated. Investigation determined the female driver was a suspended driver. The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.

As a result of the investigation, Elizabeth LUCAS, 20 year of age from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Drive Motor Vehicle in Contravention of Conditions, contrary to section 32(9) of the HTA; and
  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the HTA

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 19, 2017.

EARLY MORNING STOP RESULTS IN POSSESSION CHARGE
 
(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 11, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol on Lakeside Avenue in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly before 3:00 a.m., police observed a vehicle travelling eastbound on Lakeside Avenue and a vehicle stop was initiated. The male driver could not produce his driver’s licence or the insurance card for his vehicle. While the officer was speaking to the driver and passenger he could detect an odour of freshly burnt marihuana emanating from the vehicle. Both males were arrested and the vehicle searched. Over 450 grams of cannabis marihuana was located.

As a result of the investigation, Byron BOYER, 36 years of age, from Blind River, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – over 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 3, 2017.

Aldrick NIGANABE, 40 years of age, from Mississauga First Nation, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

DRIVER AND PASSENGER CHARGED

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On June 11, 2017, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol on Highway 17, east of the Town of Iron Bridge.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was initiated. Investigation determined the passenger was the owner of the vehicle and there was no insurance for the vehicle. The vehicle was towed.

As a result of the investigation, Daniel JONES, 41 years of age from Garden River, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Owner Permit Operation of Motor Vehicle on a Highway – No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 19, 2017.

Heather SOLOMON, 40 years of age, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with:

  • Speeding, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act.
