NOISE COMPLAINT- MALE CHARGED
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On June 18, 2017, shortly after 12:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a noise complaint at a local Motel in the Town of Blind River. An intoxicated male was yelling, bothering other guests and damaged property at the motel.
As a result of the investigation, Tyler MCCOLEMAN, 22 years of age, from Sudbury, Ontario, was charged with:
Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code (CC);
Disturbing the Peace, contrary to section 175(1)(d) of the CC; and with
Being intoxicated in a Common Area, contrary to section 34(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 13, 2017.
INTOXICATED MALE CHARGED WITH MISCHIEF
(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On June 18, 2017, shortly after 5:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to male that was intoxicated walking in the middle of Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.
The male was located and arrested. Investigation determined, the male was bound by conditions of an undertaking with a condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. While the male was lodged at Blind River detachment, the male damaged property in the cell area.
As a result of the investigation, Brett GROSSMAN, 19 years of age, from Blind River, Ontario, was charged with:
Mischief- Interfere with Lawful Use, Enjoyment or Operation of Property- Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code (CC);
Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge, contrary to section 145(5.1) of the CC; and with
Being Intoxicated in Public Place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 13, 2017.
INTOXICATED MALE CHARGED WITH SEVERAL OFFENCES
(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 17, 2017, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.
Shortly after 3:00 a.m., police were eastbound on Causley Street when they observed an intoxicated male walking towards them in the same lane. Police stopped and arrested the male. As the male was being searched, officers located a small amount of Cannabis Marihuana on his person. While the male was lodged at Blind River detachment, the male damaged property in the cell area.
As a result of the investigation, Robert SCHELLEKENS, 26 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:
- Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code;
- Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana-Under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- Being Intoxicated in Public Place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act; and with
- Adult Fail to Walk on Left Side of Highway, contrary to section 179 of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 13, 2017.
TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER CHARGED
(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On June 17, 2017, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a westbound tractor trailer near the junction of Highway 17 and Highway 108 within the Township of the North Shore. Police located the tractor trailer and initiated a traffic stop. The driver could not produce up- to- date documents for the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Tariq KHAN, 44 years of age, from Brantford, Ontario, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
- Fail to Surrender Complete Daily Inspection Report, contrary to section 107(7) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
- Fail to Maintain Daily Log, contrary to section 190(3) of the HTA.
18 YEAR OLD MALE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT
(JOHNSON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On June 16, 2017, shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a sexual assault that had just occurred in Johnson Township. Investigation determined that a 14 year old female was sexually assaulted by a male known to her.
As a result of the investigation, an 18 year old male, from Laird Township, Ontario, was charged with:
- Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 13, 2017.
DRUG CHARGES AFTER VEHICLE STOP
(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 16, 2017, at approximately 8:38 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting regular patrol duties on Lauzon Crescent and Algom Road in the City of Elliot Lake.
A vehicle drove by police with studded snow tires. A traffic stop was conducted, as studded tires are required to be removed by June 1st. When police spoke to the male driver, marihuana was observed in the vehicle and a strong odour of marihuana was emanating from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 68 Oxycodone pills, 15.5 methamphetamine tablets, 3.4 grams of hash oil, and 0.4 grams of marihuana.
In addition, the East Algoma Crime Unit and Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) assisted with the investigation.
David Jack (DJ) WILLETT, 27 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Oxycodone, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking -methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the (CDSA)
- Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis resin – under 1 gram, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on August 1, 2017.
DRIVER CHARGED
(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) – On June 16, 2017, shortly after 4:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17.
Police observed a vehicle on Highway 17at Mississauga First Nation and initiated a traffic stop. The female driver was found to be unlicensed.
As a result of the investigation, Alyssa GROULX, 17 years of age, from Blind River, Ontario, was issued three provincial offence notices and charged with:
Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the HTA; and with
Fail to Have Insurance Card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
DRIVER GOES THROUGH SCHOOL BUS STOP
(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 16, 2017 at 4:13 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a call pertaining to a vehicle which failed to stop for a school bus while the school bus stop sign and red flashing lights were activated. This occurred on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.
A description of the vehicle, female driver, and license plate number were provided to police. After investigation, police located the female.
Bonnie QUACKENBUSH, 66 years of age, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
- Fail to stop for school bus – meeting, contrary to section 175(11) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
DRIVER FOUND TO BE BREACHING CONDITIONS
(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 12, 2017, at 12:10 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol duties on Highway 108 and Mountain Road in the City of Elliot Lake.
A vehicle drove by police with studded snow tires. A traffic stop was conducted, as studded tires are required to be removed by June 1st. Police also noticed there was no license plate on the rear of the vehicle.
As a result, a traffic stop was conducted and police spoke to the male driver. Police recognized the male driver as there was a warrant out for his arrest. In addition, he was not supposed to be in the company of his passenger in the car.
Michel Roger ROSS, 33 years of age, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
- Fail to Comply with conditions of Undertaking given by officer in charge, contrary to section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Drive motor vehicle, no plates, contrary to section 7(1)(b i) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
- Drive with studded tire, contrary to section 9 of the HTA
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the HTA
- Improper number plate light, contrary to section 62(19) of the HTA
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on June 13, 2017.
OFF ROAD VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO CHARGES
(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On June 9, 2017, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Mississauga Avenue and Axmith Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake.
At 9:15 a.m. police observed an Off Road Vehicle (ORV) operating in a suspicious manner. Police stopped the ORV a short time later on a trail in the same area. A traffic stop was initiated which resulted in the plate being seized.
Adrian LECUYER, 30 years of age, from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
- Use plate unauthorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
- Driver fail to surrender license, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA
- Off Road Vehicle – no ORV permit, contrary to O. Reg 316/03 section 16(1) of the HTA
