A local teen in the town of Chapleau has a reason to celebrate as does the entire town. Sixteen year old Emma Morrison won the title of Miss Teenage Canada, making her the first Indigenous person to win the title and the first time a contestant from Northern Ontario won the title.
Morrison represented Northern Ontario after taking that crown in May of this year at the Miss Northern Ontario pageant in Sudbury.
The sixteen year old participated in the Miss Teenage Canada pageant over the weekend in Toronto.
Morrison competed against 70 other contestants from all over Canada.
A special homecoming parade is taking place in Chapleau today.
“I am still in so much shock because last night was a night I will remember for the rest of my life,” Morrison wrote on her Facebook page Monday morning
“Overall, I also wanted to thank everyone who believed in me. I was so proud and honoured to have walked in representing Northern Ontario because I knew how much support I was given!” she wrote.
