Batchewana has just announced their 2021 elections for Chief and Council will be postponed from May 5, 2021 to July 28, 2021.
This postponement is due to the further restrictions through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Dean Sayers comments in the weekly pandemic update, “After much discussion and review of information, we decided to postpone our election.”
A number of reasons contributed to this decision. The council took into consideration the advice of the Batchewana Pandemic committee, and Algoma Public Health to exercise caution and make sure safety is priority.
Chief Sayers says they anticipate more lockdowns, and even though you may be vaccinated, continue to wear your mask, wash your hands and maintain social distancing.
