The leaves turning were slightly delayed this year due to the unseasonably warm temperatures for the month of September and October, but now that the cooler air is upon us, the fall colours are quickly reaching their peak.
We all take this for granted, but did you know the Sault Ste. Marie area including all of Algoma is ranked as one of the best five spots in Canada to take in the blazing colour?
Areas close to the city including the Soo Locks and Hiawatha highlands are among the most popular sections close by.
Searchmonth highway, St. Joseph Island and of course the Agawa Canyon tour train provide breathtaking views.
According to OntarioParks, Lake Superior Park, about a two hour drive north of Sault Ste. Marie is currently 100 per cent with the dominant colour of orange while Batchawana Bay continues to have mostly green showing as of early October.
Let’s face it though, there really isn’t a bad spot in our area to take in the splendor of the season, but the window is getting smaller. A few storms are expected to roll into the area with rain and wind this weekend that could leave the trees bare in very short order.
