Algoma Public Health reported ten (10) new cases of COVID-19 and a negligible increase of one (1) to the active count for a final total of 76 (76), with one of those being identified as being from outside of the district. Hospitalizations are now being captured in a separate chart and can be reviewed below.
Of the new cases reported, eight (8) have been identified in Sault Ste. Marie and area, zero new cases were found in Central and East Algoma, two (2) new cases were confirmed in Elliot Lake and area, and no new cases were located in North Algoma.

Notes:

- The number in brackets are active cases in non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in Algoma. These cases are not counted as part of Algoma’s confirmed case count. APH conducts contact tracing and monitoring of self-isolation for all cases within Algoma
- Resolved includes cases where a patient tested positive but is resolved according to current public health criteria. This number includes any persons who are deceased.
- Deceased include the number of people with a confirmed case of COVID-19 who have died.
- Tests include all that Algoma Public Health is aware through Ontario Laboratory Information Systems (OLIS).
Stop The Spread
In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, please continue to follow all Algoma-wide mandatory public health measures in place:
- Anyone who is sick, even with mild symptoms, must stay home and isolate away from others – regardless of whether you have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Cut back on unnecessary activities where you have unmasked, face-to-face close contact with people you don’t live with. Limit the size and number of social gatherings you have. Do this even if you have had two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and especially if you have vulnerable health conditions or are not immunized.
- Get your COVID-19 vaccine.
Omicron
The COVID-19 variant of concern, omicron, has been detected in positive cases of COVID-19 in the health unit region as listed on APH’s website. Omicron is now the dominant strain of COVID-19 in Ontario, which was expected based on provincial modeling.
APH continues to monitor the number of cases determined to be Omicron to determine if and when it is the dominant strain of COVID-19 in our region, similar to our approach to reporting of the presence of the delta variant.
To mitigate transmission of Omicron and severe health outcomes from COVID-19, case and contact management in Ontario has shifted to treat all cases of COVID-19 as suspect Omicron.
