TORONTO — North American markets headed down in mid-morning trading Wednesday
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 98.14 points at 20,631.20.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 348.37 points at 32,641.75. The S&P 500 index was down 51.74 points at 4,080.41, while the Nasdaq composite was down 137.95 points at 11,943.44.
The Canadian dollar traded for 78.92 cents US compared with 79.06 cents US on Tuesday.
The July crude oil contract was up US$1.47 from Tuesday’s settle price at US$116.14 per barrel and the July natural gas contract was up 49 cents at US$8.63 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was down US$3 at US$1,845.40 an ounce and the July copper contract was up 1.6 cents at US$4.31 a pound
