Charges laid in Blind River for Fraud and also Unwanted Person

East Algoma OPP Lays Fraud Charge

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 18, 2022, shortly after 8:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance near Eastman Road and Highway 17 in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined a local tow company attended the said area and pulled a vehicle out of the ditch. The driver of the vehicle refused to pay for the tow service and drove off. Police located the vehicle a short time later and arrested the driver.

As a result, William NELSON, 18 years-of-age from Gowen, Michigan, was charged with:

  • Fraud Under $5000, contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 4, 2022.

 

East Algoma OPP Lays Multiple Charges

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On June 18, 2022, shortly after 11:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an unwanted person that was consuming alcohol in a local restaurant on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Police attended the restaurant a short time later and arrested the intoxicated person. While dealing with this person a false name given to officers.

As a result, Tyler COLLINS, 33 years-of-age, of no fixed address was charged with:

  • Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice, contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on June 19, 2022 and was remanded into custody.
