RIDE Program leads to Impaired Charges

(GORE BAY, ON) – On July 24, 2022 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Drive Everywhere (RIDE) program, including the Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) on Range Street in the Town of Gore Bay.

A vehicle entered the RIDE program and the driver registered a fail on the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was subsequently arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Devin WHEALE, 32-years-old from Gore Bay was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on September 14, 2022.
