Search Warrant Results in Numerous Charges for Wawa Resident
(WAWA, ON) – On August 25, 2022 at approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Crime Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence on Mackey Street in Wawa.
Once inside the residence, officers located stolen property related to several recent thefts, as well as weapons and a small quantity of drugs.
As a result of the investigation, Thomas CRILLY, 43 years-of-age, of Wawa was arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC (Four Counts),
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC (Four Counts),
- Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC (Four Counts), and
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
The accused was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
Charges Laid Following Domestic Dispute
(WAWA, ON) – On August 22, 2022, at approximately 1:26 a.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Hillcrest Avenue in Wawa.
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old person, from Wawa, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Assault – Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC) (Two Counts), and
- Mischief – Domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in September 2022, in Wawa.
Wawa Resident Charged with Assault
(WAWA, ON) – On August 25, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that occurred on Algoma Street in Wawa.
As a result of the investigation, Brenda DAVIS, 56 years-of-age, of Wawa was arrested and charged with the following:
- Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC), and
- Mischief Under $5,000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 12, 2022 in Wawa.

Chapleau Resident Charged with Assault
(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On August 23, 2022 at approximately 3:38 p.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of an assault in progress on Broomhead Road in Chapleau.
Police attended the scene and, through investigation, a 14-year-old youth, from Chapleau, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC, and
- Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 6, 2022 in Chapleau.
