(SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP, ON) – On December 25, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m. members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dealing with an abandoned vehicle on Young Street in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
Police observed a side-by-side traveling at a high rate of speed and fail to stop for a stop sign. Police attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop for police, colliding with the front end of a police vehicle causing damage and fleeing the scene. The driver was later located and arrested.
Rilley HARRIS, 26-years-old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township was charged with:
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
Flight from Peace Officer contrary to section 320.17 CC
Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
Fail to Remain contrary to section 200(1)(a) HTA
Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt contrary to section 172(1) HTA
Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop contrary to section 136(1)(a) HTA
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 16, 2023.
