Search Warrant in Espanola Leads To Charges

On January 26, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Albert Street in Espanola.

Police seized drugs suspected to be Opioids (Fentanyl) and Cocaine. Also seized were cellular phones and tablets, digital scales, and approximately $370 in Canadian Currency. As a result of the investigation, three people were arrested and charged.

Jordyn CAYER, 28-years-old, from Evansville was charged with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

·        Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

·        Failure to comply with release order – other than attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC

The accused also had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Manitoulin Detachment (Espanola) of the OPP, which was executed for the following charges:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

·        Possession of a prohibited device, contrary to section 92(2) of the CC

·        Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC

·        Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice, contrary to section 403(1)(d) of the CC

·        Public mischief, contrary to section 140(1)(b)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Virtual Bail Court in Sudbury on January 27, 2023 and was remanded into custody.

Cecile TROTTIER, 30-years-old, from Espanola was charged with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

·        Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Virtual Bail Court in Sudbury on January 27, 2023 and was released from custody.

Constance ELLIOT, 59-years-old, from Espanola was charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on February 13, 2023.
