(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On April 7, 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake and arrested the driver and passenger.
On April 5, 2023, police received a call in relation to a stolen vehicle. The complainant reported that two known people had his red car and refuse to return it. On April 6, a witness observed one of people driving the red car on Highway 17 in Elliot Lake. The vehicle was later towed from a residence on Bennett Drive.
On April 7, police observed the two people in a different vehicle and a subsequent traffic stop was conducted. During the arrest, police observed the passenger attempting to items under the seat. Police seized approximately 2.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine and brass knuckles from under the seat. In addition, the keys for the stolen red car were located in the driver’s purse.
Andrew KIRK (AK), 45 years-old, of Elliot Lake was charged with:
· Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine
· Failure to Comply with Undertaking
· Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle
· Failure to comply with Probation Order (two counts)
· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon
· Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
· Utter threats – cause death or bodily harm (two counts)
· Resist Peace Officer
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on April 8, 2023.
Ginette WITHERS, 44 years-old, of Elliot Lake was charged with:
· Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle
· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 6, 2023.
